Developing a food allergy policy is helpful if food is brought into the childcare setting by other parents.

It is not only during meal times and snack times that food can be an issue. Many craft products - both commercial ones and home made ones can contain ingredients that could trigger an allergic response. For instance, using flour-based play dough will be a risk if a child in the nursery has a wheat allergy.  Products needs to be carefully checked and means of involving the child in other activities need to be explored so they do not become excluded.
